Source Description
UniprotDEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Ubiquitous in young leaves primordia. Becomes more prominent in developing trichome cells but disappears progressively when trichomes begin to initiate branches. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15728674}.
UniprotTISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in leaves, stems and flowers (PubMed:11437443). Expressed in trichome cells and in leaf primordia (PubMed:9625690). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:11437443, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9625690}.
Functional Description ? help Back to Top
Source Description
TAIREncodes a Myb-like protein that is required for induction of trichome development.
UniProtTranscription activator, when associated with BHLH2/EGL3/MYC146 or BHLH12/MYC1. Involved in epidermal cell fate specification in leaves. Together with TTG1 and GL3, promotes trichome formation and endoreplication. Regulates the production of a signal that induces hair (trichome) precursor cells on leaf primordia to differentiate. Binds to the WER-binding sites (WBS) promoter regions and activates the transcription of target genes (By similarity). {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11063707, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12356720, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15361138, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15728674, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9625690}.

  1. TRICHOMELESS1 can be recruited to the cis-acting regulatory elements of GLABRA1
    [PMID: 17933793]
  2. Data show that GL1 associates with TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA1 in vivo, forming a complex.
    [PMID: 18434419]
  3. Expression levels of GL1, MYB23, GL2 and TTG1 were reduced in shoots of sad2 mutants while expression levels of GL3 and ENHANCER OF GLABRA3 (EGL3) were enhanced.
    [PMID: 18713401]
  4. DNA binding of GL1 and GL3 via their own DNA-binding domains to the promoter of GL2 is probably required for the activation of GL2 expression.
    [PMID: 18948276]
  5. 20 novel genes in the regulatory network involved in the trichome formation are the direct targets of GL3/GL1.
    [PMID: 19247443]
  6. Impaired fatty acid/lipid flux is associated with a nonallelic GLABRA1 mutation which causes abnormal cuticle formation and impaired plant immunity.
    [PMID: 20699396]
  7. GL1 has qualitative and likely quantitative effects on trichome density in natural populations of Arabidopsis thaliana.
    [PMID: 22625421]
  8. AtMYC1 protein is predominantly localised in the cytoplasm and can relocate GL1 from the nucleus into the cytoplasm.
    [PMID: 23900543]
  9. Protein interaction analysis revealed that MYB82 physically interacts with GLABRA3. In addition, MYB82 and GL1 can form homodimers and heterodimers at R2R3-MYB domains, which may explain why their overexpression reduces trichome numbers.
    [PMID: 24803498]
  10. GL1 represses the activation of the TRY promoter by GL3 and TTG1, and TTG1 suppresses the activation of the CPC promoter by GL1 and GL3.
    [PMID: 25926482]
  11. These results suggested that the Serine 92 in the conserved [D/E]Lx2 [R/K]x3Lx6Lx3R amino acid signature of GL1 is not essential for the interaction of GL1 and GL3, but may play a role in the binding of GL1 to the promoters of its target genes.
