Source Description
UniprotTISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in inflorescence and floral meristems, young floral organ primordia, and later in ovule primordia.
Functional Description ? help Back to Top
Source Description
TAIRA recessive mutation in the Arabidopsis STERILE APETALA (SAP) causes severe aberrations in inflorescence and flower and ovule development.
UniProtTranscriptional regulator involved in the specification of floral identity. Acts as A class cadastral protein by repressing the C class floral homeotic gene AGAMOUS in the external flower organs in association with APETALA2 and other repressors. Is required to maintain floral meristem identity in concert with AGAMOUS. Interacts also with APETALA2 to ensure the normal development of ovule.

  1. SAP controls organ size by targeting PEAROD1 and PEAPOD2 proteins for degradation in Arabidopsis thaliana.
    [PMID: 27048938]
  2. SAP acts in a common pathway with KIX8/9 and PPD to control organ growth by regulating meristemoid cell proliferation. Thus, these findings reveal a molecular mechanism by which SAP targets the KIX-PPD repressor complex for degradation to regulate meristemoid cell proliferation and organ size.
