Expression -- Description ? help Back to Top
Source Description
UniprotDEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Accumulates in an adaxial ball-shaped set of cells in three to five cell layers around the L3 layer of the shoot apical meristem (SAM) in youg plantlets. Later, expressed transiently at the center of the boundary between the SAM and developing leaf primordia. In the inflorescence meristem, confined to the axils of flower primordia. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16461581, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16473968}.
UniprotTISSUE SPECIFICITY: Mostly expressed in roots. Also present in shoot tips and flower buds. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16461581}.

Source Description
TAIR"Putative homolog of the Blind gene in tomato. Together with RAX2 and RAX3 belong to the class R2R3 MYB genes; encoded by the Myb-like transcription factor MYB37, regulates axillary meristem formation. RAX1 is expressed in a small central domain within the boundary zone separating SAM and leaf primordia during early leaf primordium development and is currently the earliest spatial marker for future axillary meristems. Member of the R2R3 factor gene family."
UniProtTranscription activator of genes involved in the regulation of meristematic competence, such as CUC2. Positively regulates axillary meristems (AMs) formation and development, especially at early phases of vegetative growth, probably by specifying a stem cell niche for AM formation. Modulates the negative regulation mediated by gibberellic acid on the timing of developmental phase transitions. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16461581, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16473968}.
Function -- GeneRIF ? help Back to Top
  1. rax mutants show new phenotypes that are characterized by defects in lateral bud formation in overlapping zones along the shoot axis. RAX genes are partially redundant in function and allow a fine-tuning of secondary axis formation [RAX1]
    [PMID: 16461581]
  2. RAX1 functions to positionally specify a stem cell niche for axillary meristem formation and affects the timing of developmental phase transitions by negatively regulating gibberellic acid levels in the shoot apex. [RAX1]
    [PMID: 16473968]
  3. ROX regulates axillary meristem formation redundantly with RAX1 and LAS.
    [PMID: 22372440]
  4. A LFY allele with reduced floral function revealed its ability to stimulate axillary meristem growth. This role requires the ability of LFY to bind DNA, and is mediated by direct induction of REGULATOR OF AXILLARY MERISTEMS1 (RAX1) by LFY.
