Source Description
UniprotDEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Specifically expressed during initiation of the shoot apical meristem, when cotyledonary primordia arise at the flanks of the apical embryo domain phase. Confined to the initiating vascular primordium of the cotyledons during heart and torpedo stages, but only weakly expressed during bent cotyledon stage. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14711878}.
Functional Description ? help Back to Top
Source Description
TAIREncodes a WUSCHEL-related homeobox gene family member with 65 amino acids in its homeodomain. Proteins in this family contain a sequence of eight residues (TLPLFPMH) downstream of the homeodomain called the WUS box. Its mRNA is expressed in the initiating vascular primordium of the cotyledons during heart and torpedo stages.
UniProtTranscription factor which may be involved in developmental processes. {ECO:0000250}.

  1. Data indicate a conserved role for WOX1 genes in regulating lateral organ development.
    [PMID: 19717616]
  2. WOX1 plays an important role in meristem development in Arabidopsis.
    [PMID: 21658178]
  3. Specific expression of PRS and WOX1 in a domain between the adaxial and abaxial domains is important for lateral-specific blade outgrowth and margin-specific cell fate.
    [PMID: 22374393]
  4. These data points to a general requirement for AS2 repression in meristematic regions to allow cell proliferation.
    [PMID: 25807065]
  5. Adaxial-expressed MONOPTEROS (MP) and abaxial-enriched auxin together act as positional cues for patterning the WOX domain. MP directly binds to the WOX1 and PRS promoters and activates their expression.
